Exmoor Farmers Livestock Auctions

The Foot and Mouth restrictions of 2000 had a devastating affect on the farming industry on Exmoor. The markets were closed and movements between farms and abbatoirs were difficult and a licence was required.

Eventually some restrictions were lifted and a new type of video market was held in the village hall. The auctioneers visited farms with livestock to sell and video taped the stock and played back the pictures to farmers and buyers in the hall.

The following pictures show some of the 'markets' in Cutcombe and there are some pictures of Cutcombe Fatstock Show.

The above pictures shows one of the many Video Auctions we had that year. These were difficult times but thanks to Exmoor Farmers Livestock many farmers were able to sell their stock in the Autumn.
